The area we chose for our cabin is very rocky. Rather than blast a foundation for the cabin, we choose to use concrete piers sitting on solid rock. I dug down until I hit solid rock, then filled the hole with concrete and placed a preformed "deck block" on top of the concrete. Deck blocks are pyramid shaped concrete blocks with a area hollowed out in the top side to accept a 4x4. The deck block can be purchased at places like Home Depot. We used a modified post and beam type of construction. |
